Mike Merchent at St. Andrews in Scotland

Mike has become a regular in local media outlets. He has appeared in Indy Men’s Magazine, on local TV stations, ABC, NBC, Fox, and and on several radio stations including WIBC and ESPN radio where he had a weekly call in radio show. This year he is also doing a weekly golf tip on WNDE. As Director of Golf, he is our primary spokesperson, and we couldnt be more happy with his representation of the course.

Mike Merchent believes playing golf should be an experience. From the moment you reach his golf course your comfort will be the #1 priority. Merchent is one of the founders in addition to being the Director of Golf.

He insisted that all 218 acres be used for the golf course. The banks would have been happier if he had settled for 140 acres of golf, and 70 acres of homes, but he insisted that golf come first.

When played from the championship tees, his course will be the longest regulation course (par 72) east of the Mississippi, at over 7,600 yards. There will be at least 6 sets of tees at each hole.  When played from the front tees, the course will be only 4,200 yards long.

With the far forward tees the course will be attractive to junior and beginning players.

Mike also believes in hiring the best people, and staying out of their way so they can do the best job possible. He provided an atmosphere for the golf course architect to maximize his creativity. Kern was encouraged to have more control over this project than any other in his career. As a result, his creativity was unhampered as you’ll see when you play this golf course.

Your pleasure while playing Purgatory is the most important thing to Mike. The greatest amount of time and money went into the design and construction of the course. He knows that if you enjoy yourself out on the course you will be back.

Picnic lunches will be available to take on the course, as well as coolers of soda, and thermos’ of lemonade. A snack cart will keep last minute items available. There will be three bathrooms out on the course, so you never have to go more than four holes without passing a bathroom.

Your golf experience is the #1 priority to Merchent.  He has gone out of his way to make sure it is a superb one!
