Chuck Thomas Wins the Purgatory Club Championship

The Purgatory Golf Club Championship was held Saturday and Sunday, September 21st and 22nd.  The Championship was a 36 hole, stroke play format.

The winner of the Championship was Chuck Thomas of Indianapolis.  Thomas is a former champion at Purgatory, and just recently moved back to Indianapolis after living in North Carolina.  Thomas shot a 75 and a 72, for an overall score of 147.

The “Low Net” winner was Tony Rhode, who shot an 83 and a 75 with a 3 handicap, make his overall net 152.

We appreciate all of those that participated in the Club Championship, and congrats again to Chuck Thomas!

Arni’s Charity Classic 2013

Arni’s Restaurant held their 11th annual Charity Classic at Purgatory Golf Club on Thursday, September 19.

The outing included catered lunch from Arni’s, an 18 hole scramble, a putting competition, a steak dinner, raffles, prizes, a silent auction, and an after party with Dave and Rae.

All proceeds from the outing went to the respectable charities of the Arni’s Charity Classic: Indiana Children’s Wish Fund, Arnold I. Cohen Endowment, PALS, and Damar.

Amerisure – Indiana Manufacturer’s Association Golf Outing 2013

Amerisure – Indiana Manufacturer’s Association held their annual golf outing benefiting the Make A Wish Foundation at Purgatory Golf Club on Monday, September 16.

The outing was an 18 hole scramble, with a closest to the pin and a longest drive competition.

Following the scramble, a silent auction was held in the dining hall during the dinner hours.

A child that had been granted a wish from the Make A Wish Foundation also shared her story.

Hamilton County Amateur Open 2013

The Hamilton County Amateur Open Finals were held at Purgatory Golf Club on Sunday, September 15.

The open was a 36 hole tournament, with the opening day at Prairie View Golf Club, and the finals at Purgatory.

The field was set at 72 players – 48 amateurs and 24 senior amateurs.

To be eligible for the open, players in the amateur division must have had a 2013 IGA/USGA handicap index of 9.9 or less.  Players in the senior amateur division must have been at least 55 years of age, and had a 2013 IGA/USGA handicap of 14.0 or lower.

Duke Memorial Golf Outing 2013

The Duke Memorial Golf Outing was held at Purgatory on Friday, September 13.  The outing was to honor late Larry Duke, an avid Ball State Women’s Golf fan, who also has a daughter, Autumn, on the team.  Larry tragically passed away last September in a motorcycle accident.

Included at the outing was a silent auction, lunch, dinner, and several competitions (longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin).

All proceeds from the event benefitted the Ball State Women’s Golf Team.

Key Benefit Administrators 2013 Golf Outing

Key Benefit Administrators held their annual golf outing benefiting Riley Children’s hospital yesterday, September 10, at Purgatory Golf Club.

The outing included an 18 hole scramble, longest drive competition, closest to pin competition, and a long putt competition.

Several items, including sports memorabilia, restaurant gift certificates, and Vera Bradley bags, were auctioned off in a silent auction, with all proceeds being donated to Riley Children’s Hospital.

Louisville Wins IU Fall Kickoff

The IU Fall Kickoff took place at Purgatory Golf Club yesterday, September 8.  The Louisville Cardinals took first place in the 36 hole tournament, tallying a team score of 570.  Louisville’s Laura Restrepo took the individual crown with a score of 139.

Rounding out the team scores were Indiana (597), Xavier (604), Cincinnati (605), Indiana State (618), Youngstown State (647), and DePauw (648).

Last year’s winner of the IU Kickoff, Elizabeth Tong, finished tied for 20th overall with a score of 152.

We appreciate all of the teams and fans that came to Purgatory, we hope you enjoyed yourselves!

Last Men’s Night Ended in Football Fashion

The last Purgatory Men’s Night of the season was held last night, September 5.  The theme for the evening was football, as last night was the opening night of the NFL.

Rather than using traditional golf scoring, the participants in the Men’s Night used football scoring, where the highest score won.  A birdie was seven points (touchdown), a par was three points (field goal), and a bogey was negative two points (safety).  Teams were comprised of three individuals that played in a scramble format.
