Golf.com 2012: PURGATORY: This may be the most visually stunning course in the state. Despite the name there’s plenty of fun to be had on the 218-acre layout (perhaps less so if you’re so bold as to play from the 7,754 yard Purgatory tees). Pay heed to the 173-yard, par-3 17th. While the green itself is large, you must navigate over a sea of sand to reach it. ($45-$75, purgatorygolf.com, 35 minutes from Carmel)

- America’s Top 50 Courses for Women 2011
- Top 50 Women’s Courses 2011: Golf for Women sadly closed its doors in 2008, but Golf Digest has added a section to their website that covers women’s interests. They selected Purgatory Golf Club as one of America’s Top 50 Courses For Women in March of this year. Here’s what they have to say about how they select the award winning courses: “In compiling America’s Top 50 Courses for Women, we considered nominations and evaluations by our panel of more than 100 female raters, but ultimately we ranked the universe of daily-fee and public courses on how well they met the woman-friendly criteria established by the editors. Among them: at least one tee less than 5,300 yards; at least two sets of tees with USGA Slope and Course Ratings for women, minimal forced carries from the forward tees, and run-up areas to most or all greens.”
- Be A Man – Three Over Par, Indianapolis Monthly, June, 2008.Indianapolis Monthly: By Daniel Comiskey, Tony Rehagen, and Michael Rubino. “When tee time means undulating greens, a cool breeze, and the perfect swing, it’s heaven on Earth, even if one Noblesville course is named Purgatory Golf Club. Purgatory offers challenges by way of 125 bunkers and a whopping 7,700 yards from the back tees.”
