Purgatory Golf Club Press Release
NOBLESVILLE, IND. – Purgatory Golf Club has been ranked among the Top 100 Public Golf Courses in the country in Golf Digest magazine’s biennial survey of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses.
Golf Digest has compiled its biennial list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses since 1985. A Public Golf Courses category was added in 2003 to recognize outstanding golf courses across the country that are available without a membership – a list that celebrates both architectural superiority and accessibility.
This is the first time Purgatory Golf Club has made the Top 100 Public Golf Courses list. “We are proud to be recognized by one of the leading golf magazines for our course’s layout and accessibility,” said Mike Merchent, PGA pro and director of golf at Purgatory. “We designed the course with all golfers in mind, which is why we have six sets of tees available at every hole. We want golfers to be able to play the game that’s right for them, all in a unique setting”.
A number of criteria were involved in the judging and selection process, including:
· Shot values: Does the course pose risks and rewards while equally testing length, accuracy and finesse?
· Resistance to score: How difficult is the course
