When I heard that 10-year-old female golf Latanna Stone qualified to play in the U.S. Women’s Amateur championship, I wasn’t sure if I felt inspired or overwhelmed. As the parent of an junior golfer aspiring to play the tour someday, these child prodigy’s and their amazing accomplishments can make you feel like you simply aren’t doing enough.
We’ve chosen however to take it as inspiration. It is so wonderful that these young people can accomplish so much. We have decided to take a slightly different path, while our son still competes, he also goes to camp, has play dates, and leads a somewhat normal life, with golf clearly on his top 10 list of things he thinks about, talks about, worries about, wants to do with his time…
So we have decided to add golf inspiration to the list of Purgatory Golf Club’s responsibilities. We hope to accomplish this in a number of ways, with quotes, stories, photographs (of course), and anything else that we think may keep your motivated to enjoy the game of golf, and not worry about the fact that you or your offspring didn’t qualify for a big tournament at 14 or 10. Because, even though I hate to say it…there is more to life than golf.
